The Grisby application has a simple purpose: to help you stay on top of your finances, to aid you in managing your cash account and your spending. This is a personal finance manager or personal accounting application that you can use for free on your machine.

Speaking about your machine, it doesn’t matter if it’s powered by Windows, Mac OS X, or a Linux distro, Grisbi can run on it. Focusing on Windows alone, you can install the application in one of several supported languages and you can choose between a Full Installation (includes Grisbi program files, GTK2+libraries, plugins, and Start menu shortcuts), Full Without GTK Installation, Grisbi Only Installation (no plugins), and Custom installation.

An assistant will show up when you run Grisbi for the first time and guide you through the initial setup of the application. In the General Configuration window you will get to choose if you want to automatically load the last file at startup, if you want Grisbi files to be encrypted, if you want to make a backup copy before saving files, and more.

Next up you will be presented with an assistant that will help you create and configure a new account file. You will get to choose one of several supported currencies, and you will get to choose one of several account types: bank account, cash account, liabilities account, and assets account.

With Grisbi, you are not limited to just one account – you can create as many as you want. Then you can use the application to manage cash account, expenditures, receipts, and so on. You’re well advised to check out the Grisbi manual if you have any problems figuring out how to use the application.

As mentioned above, Grisbi is a free personal finance manager. The application, as a matter of fact, is released under a GNU General Public License. Use Grisbi for free for as long as you want and feel free to share it with others.

Grisbi, a free personal finance manager, helps Windows, Mac, and Linux users keep track of their finances.

Pros

Grisbi is available for Windows, MAC, and various Linux distros. Grisbi is free. You can create as many accounts as you want. Transactions can be scheduled. Create and display reports. Grisbi files can be encrypted. Assistants and wizard help you out.

Cons

None that I could think of.
